Live resin is produced in a very similar fashion to BHO, but with fresh, flash frozen bud, as opposed to bud that has been dried and cured.
There are many different ways to extract the desired components of cannabis. When it comes to concentrates, butane hash-oil (BHO) is the most common form. Live resin is actually a form of BHO, but more of a connoisseur grade one that focuses on maintaining a strong and pure flavour profile. While the production process of standard BHO is relatively simple, producing live resin is a lot more complex.
Live Resin is made the exact same way as cured resin with one key difference: starting material. While cured resin utilizes dried flowers, live resin is made using still-living plants. Live concentrates are made by taking the trichomes from the still-living plants. This is accomplished by harvesting the plant and getting the flowers and sugar leaves into a flash frozen state immediately before the plant has any time to dry or decay. It allows for a more flavorful end product since it prevents the terpenes from being damaged or destroyed before extraction. The cryogenic freezing of fresh and non-dried cannabis blossoms helps to extract a wider range of cannabinoids and terpenes, but it requires very specialist equipment.
You can use live resin by dabbing it in a dab rig, vaping it in a concentrate-compatible vaporizer or vape pen, adding it to cannabis flower in a bowl or joint, or incorporating it into decarboxylated edibles, tinctures, or topicals.
